With summer travel season coming up, maybe you’d like to forego the sunny beaches for experiences that give you chills.

Forestry graduate Andrea Lankford (’86) proposes some hair-raising destinations in her new book, Haunted Hikes: Spine-tingling Tales and Trails from North America’s National Parks. This is the third book for the former National Park Service ranger who quit her government job to walk, bicycle, and kayak the country.

Haunted Hikes coverLankford describes spooky experiences and tells you how you, too, can enjoy eerie sights and sounds in more than 50 national parks. The book includes maps and trail descriptions.

“I don't believe in ghosts,” she says. “But I've seen and heard too much not to believe in hauntings. My research turned up hundreds of true stories and compelling legends.” Haunted Hikes is available from Santa Monica Press.
