Torchbearer: Spring 1997

You're Invited

If you plan to visit UT Knoxville, make a stop at the trial gardens on the agriculture campus.

So you're going to be on campus this summer? Summer is the ideal time to see UTK. Parking is plentiful; the pace is unhurried. And "summer" starts early-after spring semester commencement May 16. So if you're bringing a son or daughter to freshman orientation or if you'll be passing through Knoxville on your way to the Smokies, allow a few extra hours to explore. Here are some suggestions.

Don't miss the Experiment Station trial gardens at the agriculture campus on Neyland Drive. Beautiful and educational, the gardens are eminently strollable, as well.

If you're a Big Orange fan, you must see the athletic museum in the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center on Lake Loudoun Boulevard. Summer hours are 8 to 5, Monday through Friday.

Make a stop at the Book and Supply Store in the University Center. Every conceivable orange and white item awaits you. Summer hours are 8:30 to 5, Monday through Friday.

The Frank H. McClung Museum on Circle Park is a treasure trove. Hours are 9 to 5 Monday through Friday, 10 to 3 Saturday, 1 to 5 Sunday.

If you want someone to show you the way, campus tours leave from the admissions office in the Student Services Building at 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Driving around campus is simple in the summer, especially in the late afternoons when most classes are done. You can usually find onstreet parking. Or stop by the information booth at Circle Park for a visitor parking permit.
