Seniors Plan Hill Entrance

A brick entrance to the Hill is this year's Senior Gift to the campus.

The Entrance to Excellence will showcase the oldest part of the campus as well as leave a permanent legacy of the class of '98. The Senior Gift Challenge committee picked the project and is spearheading fund raising for it among seniors and others.

Ross/Fowler architectural firm of Knoxville is designing the entrance, which will be at the base of the Hill near Cumberland Avenue.

Meanwhile, last year's senior gift project, a brick apron around the base of the Volunteer statue, has been completed. Bricks bear the names of alumni and friends who paid for inscriptions.

Past gifts made possible by the Senior Gift Challenge are the Westminster chimes in Ayres Hall, the Alex Haley bust in Hodges Library, the bicentennial seal at the University Center, and endowments for campus beautification and for the library.

The Senior Gift Challenge is led by a steering committee of class members. Each year's committee chooses and markets its gift, planning and implementing the campaign with the help of alumni and development staff. This year's Senior Gift Challenge chairman is Chad Price.
