Torchbearer: Spring 1998

Taking Care of Virtual Business


Students from three Tennessee high schools are virtual business leaders.

Teams from Knoxville Farragut, Oak Ridge, and Franklin high schools placed first, second, and third respectively in a competitive business simulation conducted via the Internet. UTK sponsored the inaugural Marketplace Market Masters Competition.

Students built businesses in a computer world and sent their business decisions to the Marketplace Processing Center in Knoxville. An algorithm developed by Dr. Ernest Cadotte, UTK marketing professor, determined the outcomes of the teams' decisions and which were most financially successful.
