Thanks to Women
Women's contributions to the University will be permanently recognized on
a new plaque at the Unversity Center.
The first honoree is Angie Warren Perkins, UTK's first dean of women, who
served from 1898-1900.
Perkins was "instrumental in convincing the university to open its
doors to women," says Norma Cook, associate professor and chair of
the UTK Commission for Women. Perkins served without pay.
Honorees from among faculty, staff, or alumnae will be chosen annually by
the Commission for Women, recognized at Charter Day each September, and
their names added to the plaque.
