Be Here For Homecoming '96
November 15-16

Welcome home! You and your classmates considered UT Knoxville your "home away from home" during some of the most important years of your lives. On Nov. 15 and 16, you're invited to come home to campus and celebrate with your friends and family during Homecoming 1996. In addition to the five class reunions (1951, 1956, 1961, 1966, and 1971) and the many college activities, there will be events for the entire family.

Special Events

Kickoff Celebration

The All Campus Events Committee invites you to the Homecoming Kickoff Celebration at Thompson-Boling Arena Sunday, Nov. 10, from 1-6 p.m. Bring the family and enjoy live entertainment, food, games, and activities for both children and adults.


Friday, Nov. 15

Homecoming Parade

Join other alumni, students, and friends for the annual Homecoming parade featuring floats, the Pride of the Southland Band, a surprise grand marshal, and representatives from the classes of 1951, 1956, 1961, 1966, and 1971. The parade begins on Lake Loudoun Blvd. near Thompson-Boling Arena at 2:30 p.m.

UT Singers Concert (new time!)

The UT Singers will perform their annual Homecoming show in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency at 7 p.m. Come enjoy this exciting mix of music, ranging from pop to country to rock.

Rock 'n' Roll Homecoming Dance

Boys Night Out will play the best of Carolina beach music, soul, rhythm and blues from 9-11:30 p.m. Friday in the Hyatt ballroom. $10/person; no additional charge if attending one of the five featured class reunions.

Black Alumni Associates Reception

The Black Alumni Associates invite alumni and friends to a reception from 6-10 p.m. in the Hyatt Riverview Room. No charge.

Black Alumni Associates Greek Show

The Black Alumni Associates will sponsor a Greek Show from 6-9 p.m. at Alumni Memorial Gym. Fraternities and sororities will compete for prizes and trophies. $5/person

Rocky Top Road Race

The ninth annual Rocky Top Road Race will begin at 8 a.m. on campus. This 5K race and new one-mile fun walk are sure to get your energy up for the game between the Vols and the Arkansas Razorbacks. Early bird fee is $10/runner or walker until 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13; and $12/runner or walker thereafter.

Black Alumni Associates Tailgate Party

The Black Alumni Associates will sponsor a Tailgate Party featuring Sarge's Barbecue from 11 a.m..-3 p.m. on the lawn of the Black Cultural Center. $8/person.

Pre-game Showcase

The College of Arts and Sciences invites you to a 30-minute presentation, "Icehouse Brews and Greenhouse Blues: The Rock Record of CO2," by Dr. Claudia Mora, associate professor, Department of Geological Sciences. This free program is open to the public and scheduled for two hours before kickoff in room 235, University Center.

Picnic in the Park

All alumni and friends are invited to the pre-game picnic in Circle Park. Alumni cheerleaders and pom pon squads will have a special "Spirit" tent. The Ham 'n' Goodys box lunch picnic starts at 1 p.m. (or three hours before kickoff) and includes music by True Blue and a pep rally led by the alumni cheerleaders and pom pon squads. Food service will end one hour before kickoff. Bad weather location, Stokely Athletic Center. $9/person.

Alumni Coffee

Immediately following the game, all alumni and friends are invited to a reception in the Hermitage Room in the University Center.

Black Alumni Associates Homecoming Dance

Dance the night away with the Black Alumni Associates from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Hyatt. $5/person.

International House

This is a special year for international education at UTK: the new International House is open! To bring old friends together, special events are scheduled for Homecoming weekend. Join us for a banquet in the new I-House, an international dance, a riverboat cruise, and sports tournaments. Class Reunions


A special welcome to the classes of '51, '55, '61, '66, and '71! Join friends and classmates to reminisce and catch up on all that's new! All reunion festivities will be at the Hyatt.

Friday, Nov. 15


6 p.m. Social hour

Each reunion class will have its own cash bar reception and program. Registration will also take place during the social hour. Each reception will be in a room off the main lobby of the Hyatt.

7 p.m. UT Singers concert

Enjoy a musical appetizer as the UT Singers present a mini-concert in the Hyatt lobby.

7:30 p.m. Reunion dinner

All reunion classes will come together for a special banquet to celebrate UT as it was between 1951 and 1971.

9 p.m. Homecoming dance

The perfect way to cap the evening -- listening to the sounds of Boys Night Out. Wear your dancing shoes!

Social hour, concert, dinner, dance -- all inclusive, $35/person
