Alson Currie Patton Jr. '20, July 25, 1995, Westborough, Mass. A retired
actuary and mathematician at Massachusetts Protective Association in Worcester,
he was a longtime member of Worcester's Yale Club and a veteran of the U.S.
Naval Reserve.
Margaret Keyes Harrison '25, Dec. 9, 1995, Crossville, Tenn.
Lottie Inez Lovelace '25, Mar. 27, 1996, Knoxville. A leader in the
UT Agricultural Extension Service for 42 years, she went on to head a home
management department and served as a housing, interior design, and equipment
specialist. She was president of the Tennessee Association of Home Economics
and in 1961 advocated training women to manage both careers and families.
Henry L. Bledsoe '27, Aug. 28, 1995, Hendersonville, Tenn.
Margaret McCullough Baker '29, Oct. 23, 1995, Knoxville. She was a retired
Knox County school teacher.
Harry Britton Brown '29, Mar. 7, 1996, Jellico, Tenn. He practiced law
before and after WWII, during which he joined the F.B.I. He served a term
in the Tennessee Legislature and also as Campbell County's attorney. He
was active in service clubs, a member of the Kiwanis, and director of Union
Bank in Jellico.
H. Quinn Pritchett '29, Sept. 22, 1995, Knoxville. Retired from TVA,
he was active with UT and Knoxville Track and Field organizations.
Martha Bland Swaim '29, Feb. 21, 1996, Germantown, Tenn. While at UT
she was a member of Mortar Board, the Strong Hall Association, the Women's
Senior Honor Society, and the Women's Student Government Association. She
was a social worker for the U.S. government during the Great Depression.
L. Houston Herndon '30, July 12, 1995, Humboldt, Tenn. He was principal
and football coach at Humboldt High School in the 1930s before working in
the canning and food processing industry. While at UT Herndon lettered in
football and baseball and joined Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He was a member
of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, the Gibson County Sports Hall of Fame,
and the UT Development Council, president of the Southern Canners Assoc.,
alderman for the City of Humboldt, a director of Peoples' Bank, president
of the Humboldt Rotary Club, and president of the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce.
He was instrumental in bringing several industries to Humboldt.

Grace Kelly Patton '30, Jan. 5, 1996, Dunlap, Tenn. Retired after teaching
39 years in Dunlap, she was a member of many organizations including Delta
Kappa Gamma, Elm Hill Extension Homemakers, and Dunlap Book Club.
Dr. James Gray Walls '30, Nov. 15, 1995, Knoxville. He was a geology
professor at UT from 1929-1980, taught thousands
of students, received many awards for excellence in teaching, and was the
UT golf coach for 23 years. UT named a geology lecture hall for him. He
was active in the local Republican Party, was past president
of the Knoxville Lions Club, past treasurer of John Sevier Reunion Society,
honorary UT letterman, founder of the UT Faculty Club, member of the Scarabbean
Society and Kappa Sigma fraternity, and was active in many other civic clubs.
Edward F. Kirkpatrick '31, June 24, 1995, Lebanon, Tenn. He was retired
from the U.S. Dept. of Labor.
Joseph Stewart McCroskey '31, Feb. 22, 1996, Knoxville. He was president
of Holston Printing Co. until retiring in 1976. He was also a partner in
World Travel Service and a WWII veteran.
Dr. C. Spurgeon Paschall '31, Dec. 16, 1995, Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was a retired minister, theology professor, and magazine editor.
Golda Connatser Rogers '31, Dec. 25, 1995, Seymour, Tenn. She
was a retired Sevier County school teacher who taught at Dupont Elementary,
Chilhowee Elementary, Dripping Springs, Church of God, Laurel Grove, and
Chinquapin. She received the American Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award
in 1973.
Mildred "Mickey" Reid DuBard '32, Oct. 9, 1995, Memphis. She
was past president of the Memphis Medical Auxiliary and remained active
throughout her life in alumni and University affairs. While at UT she joined
Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
John William Meriwether '32, Jan. 26, 1996, Louisville, Ky. After serving
in the Army Air Corps in WWII, he worked in the plywood and veneer manufacturing
business in the Southeast.

Mary Rachael Armstrong '33, Dec. 6, 1995, Martin, Tenn. She was former
dean of the home economics department at UT Martin.
Clarence Lillard Crabtree '33, Nov. 26, 1995, Knoxville. A civil engineer,
he was retired owner/operator of Athens Construction Co.
John Connor Prugh '33, Dec. 4, 1995, Knoxville. He was a retired sales
manager from Cincinnati Cordage Paper Co. While at UT he was a charter member
of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
Myrtle L. Watson '33, Mar. 4, 1996, Knoxville. She was a retired Rule
High School teacher.
William Caldwell Wilson '33, Dec. 2, 1995, Knoxville. He was a founding
member of the Knoxville law firm of Ambrose, Wilson, Grimm and Durand and
a past president of the Knoxville Bar Association.
Robert L. Woodward '33, Dec. 29, 1994, Richmond, Va. He was retired
from Reynolds Metals Co. and was a past president of the Reynolds Metals
Bowling League and a master bridge player.
Elizabeth Wright '33, Oct. 8, 1995, Knoxville. She was a member of Ossoli
Circle.
R. Bruce Yates '33, Feb. 6, 1996, Chattanooga, Tenn. He retired from
TVA after 37 years as chief of transportation branch.
John Bruce "J.B." Ellis Jr. '35, Oct. 22, 1995, Fayetteville,
Ark. A veteran of WWII, he taught high school and coached football in Martin,
Tenn., and Harlan, Ky., and then became superintendent of Standing Stone
Park near Livingston, Tenn. While at UT he was a football letterman, received
an All-Southeastern and Honorable Mention for All-American, and joined Sigma
Nu fraternity. He was a veteran of WWII.
S. Fletcher Sweet '35, Dec. 20, 1995, Knoxville. He was a retired professor
and head of Agricultural Communications for UT.
Oscar Howard Tedford Jr. '35, Mar. 19, 1996, Knoxville. He was founder
of Tedford Brokerage Co.
Lawrence E. White '35, Nov. 29, 1994, Goodlettsville, Tenn. He developed
and operated a mobile home court in Goodlettsville. Prior to that, he served
as a sales representative, Standard Brands Co. Inc., Nashville. He served
in the U.S. Army Sixth Cavalry.
Walter N. "Cotton" Clark Jr. '36, Aug. 15, 1995, Marietta,
Ga. He retired as manager of Royal Manufacturing Co. after 25 years. He
was a veteran of WWII and retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of major.
He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Washington and a past commander of
the Civilian Conservation Camp. He was also a charter member of Lambda Chi
fraternity.
Ras P. Neal '36, Dec. 24, 1995, Knoxville. He was charter president
of the Optimist Club of South Knoxville, a director of the Boys & Girls
Club, and owner of Tennessee Structural Products Co.
Clarence Beaman Jr. '37, Mar. 8, 1996, Knoxville. He was owner and operator
of WKGN Radio from 1947 to 1955 and founded WATE Television, Channel 6.
He was a member of the Knoxville Board of Realtors, owning Clarence Beaman
Realty. He was a captain in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of
South Knoxville Rotary Club. While at UT he joined Phi Gamma Delta and numerous
honor societies and was the band drum major.
Lillian Martin Beatty '37, June 15, 1994, Decatur, Ill. She was a retired
Maryville, Tenn., home economics and elementary teacher.
Rosemond Cates '37, Sept. 23, 1995, Knoxville. She had retired as educational
director of the Knoxville Boys Club.
Robert Blocher Darling '37, Oct. 11, 1995, Hopewell, Va. He retired
as assistant to the Hopewell plant manager at Hercules Inc. in 1974 after
37 years as a chemical engineer. He was president of the Hopewell Community
Chest in 1954, a Cub Scout master for six years, and an emeritus member
of the American Chemical Society.
S. Hassel Evans '37, Feb. 6, 1996, Knoxville. He was Knox County commissioner
from 1980 to 1990 and was known as "the education commissioner."
Formerly a vocational agriculture teacher, athletic director, and superintendent
of Unicoi County (Tenn.) Schools, he was also regional coordinator for technical
services for the State Department of Education from 1968 to 1979. The Tennessee
Legislature passed a resolution commending him for his contributions to
education. Evans Elementary School in Unicoi County was named in his honor.
He was president of the Tennessee Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association
and the first Tennessean elected president of Ruritan National. He was also
a delegate to the White House Conference on Education and helped organize
the East Tennessee Workshop for the Blind. While at UT he was active in
student government, the College of Agriculture, and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
James Newton Odom '37, Oct. 12, 1995, Knoxville. He was retired from
UT Institute of Agriculture and a devoted gardener.
Charles R. Guthrie '38, Jan. 14, 1996, Park Ridge, Ill. A longtime resident
of Gallatin, Tenn., he received a commendation for performance in WWII and
was involved in the invasions of North Africa, Normandy, and South France.
While at UT he was editor of the Orange and White and a member of
the band. He was also a Torchbearer and belonged to Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Ralph Preston Eldred '39, June 25, 1995, Franklin, Ky. He was a member
of the varsity football team and president of his senior class.
William Burton Nevils '39, Oct. 2, 1995, LaFollette, Tenn. He worked
approximately 38 years in Claiborne and Campbell County schools.
James Louis Getaz Jr. '40, Sept. 25, 1995, Swarthmore, Pa. He was a
retired Presbyterian minister, having pastored rural congregations in Newark,
Del., Campbell Hall and Old Forge, N.Y., and Greenwich, N.J.

Mozelle C. Caldwell '41, Mar. 14, 1996, Dardanelle, Ark.
Luther A. Dick Jr. '41, Jan. 29, 1996, Knoxville.
Rubyelee M. Weaver '41, Oct. 31, 1995, Knoxville. She retired after
a 30-year career teaching in Anderson and Knox counties. She helped create
the North Knoxville Republican Club and was Republican chair of the North
16th Ward for many years.
Edward T. Robbins '42, Dec. 18, 1995, Atlanta. He was a retired manager
of Chain Link Division for Atlantic Steel Co. He served in the U.S. infantry
during WWII.
John Kennedy Clark '43, Jan. 8, 1996, Knoxville. A retired CPA, he was
a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a former UT basketball star.
Verlin Lee "Hy" Heiskell '43, Dec. 22, 1994, Oklahoma City,
Okla. He held the factory distributorship for Kirby Sales and Service in
Central and Western Oklahoma for 30 years. He was a veteran of WWII and
a seaman in the Merchant Marines.
Dr. Allington Paul Wishart Sr. '43, Feb. 7, 1996, Knoxville. He was
professor emeritus, curriculum and instruction department, College of Education
at UT Knoxville. He started the geology and geography department at UT Martin,
where he taught for six years. He also served as chairman of the board of
directors at Ijams Nature Center and remained on the board until his death.
He was a member of numerous professional associations and organizations.
Martin Fredrick "Fred" Carter '44, Oct. 24, 1995, Kingston,
Tenn. He had been a White Store manager and taught vocational agriculture
at Midway High School for 33 years. He was an avid gardener known for "Carter's
tomatoes." He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Mack E. Wortman '45, July 19, 1994, Sun City, Ariz. He was a retired
Navy Captain and former pilot who served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He
was past president of the Red Bridge Lions Club of Kansas City.

Dr. James H. Love Sr. '46, Sept. 22, 1995, Asheville, N.C. A retired
dentist, he was a veteran of WWII and a special deputy with the Buncombe
County Sheriff's Department.
Betty Lou Barnes Conner '47, April 2, 1996, Bristol, Tenn. She was a
stewardess with Delta Air Lines. While at UT she was in Kappa Delta.
Gertrude Hart Kostra '47, Feb. 4, 1996, Knoxville. She taught for 43
years in Roane County and Lenoir City, and at Park Lowery and West Hills
schools in Knoxville.
Mary Elizabeth Lee Warren '47, Jan. 6, 1996, Orlando, Fla. She was owner/president
of Best Photo Lab Inc. and is in Who's Who of American Women. A former
teacher, she was appointed to the White House Commission of Education for
Children, Governor's Biracial Committee on Desegregation of Florida Schools,
UT Alumni Board of Governors, the Florida Commission on the Status of Women,
and the Florida Drug Abuse Council. She was a charter member and past president
of Florida House in Washington, D.C., a founding board member of South YMCA,
and active in numerous charitable organizations.
William Jackson "Bill" Chrisman '48, Nov. 26, 1995, Signal
Mountain, Tenn. He was a retired insurance broker from Chrisman and Associates,
a past president of the Chattanooga Civitan Club, secretary of the Signal
Mountain Lions Club, past member of the Orange Grove Board of Directors,
and a volunteer at Contact of Chattanooga Counseling Center. He served in
the Navy during WWII and the Korean War.
C. Frank Fourmy Jr. '48, Nov. 4, 1995, Memphis. He retired as senior
vice president at DuBois Chemicals Inc. A veteran of WWII, he was co-founder
and former chairman of the board of the Neighborhood Christian Center. He
was also co-host of a radio music show in Memphis.
Roland J. Brady '49, Nov. 15, 1995, Maryville, Tenn. He was a pastor
for 12 years with a weekly radio program. He also taught history in the
Blount County Schools for 27 years and owned a shrubbery business.
George A. Davis '49, June 25, 1995, Horse Cave, Ky. Retired from Ralston
Purina, he was a WWII veteran, a member of Future Farmers of America, and
an avid Vol fan. While at UT he joined Gamma Sigma Delta fraternity.
Arby Donald Dickert Sr. '49, Nov. 7, 1995, Tellico Village, Tenn. He
was a retired engineer with 3M Co. of St. Paul, Minn., and an Army Air Corps
veteran of WWII.
Joseph Lee Garner '49, Feb. 25, 1996, Knoxville. He was a U.S. Navy
veteran.
Eudell Rippetoe Julian '49, Dec. 14, 1995, Morristown, Tenn. She was
a charter member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and an active member of the DAR.
Jesse C. Mills '49, Aug. 3, 1995, Knoxville.
William Albert Nipper '49, Feb. 23, 1996, Virginia Beach, Va. He was
an FBI agent from 1952 to 1961 and a psychologist in the Oak Ridge Schools
for 27 years.
Roger K. Robinson '49, Dec. 4, 1995, Lenoir City, Tenn. A retired DOE
accountant, he was a Navy veteran of WWII and a member of the Eaton Ruritan
Club.
James L. "Jim" Smiddy '49, July 19, 1995, Ooltewah, Tenn.
He was a basketball coach at Charleston and Bradley Central High Schools.
He was inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame, Bradley County
Oldtimers Hall of Fame, and the Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame. He was
National Basketball Coach of the Year in 1985. Bradley Central High School
gymnasium was named in his honor.
Thomas McMahon Tucker Sr. '49, Nov. 20, 1995, Knoxville. He had retired
as board chairman of Power Equipment Co.
Hugh William "Bill" Anderson Sr. '50, Jan. 7, 1996, Jacksonville,
Fla. He was a retired attorney and businessman. While at UT he joined Phi
Gamma Delta fraternity.
Frank Samuel Bell '50, Feb. 10, 1996, Knoxville. He retired from Sealtest
Foods after 24 years and was a real estate agent until 1991. He was a decorated
veteran of WWII and, while at UT, a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity
and the Marketing Club.
Anita Schubert Bibb '50, Jan. 1, 1996, Nashville, Tenn.
Thomas Harold Joseph Burnett '50, Mar. 2, 1996, Oak Ridge, Tenn. He
was a health physicist with Union Carbide Nuclear Division at Oak Ridge
National Laboratory for more than 35 years. He served in the Special Engineering
Division of the U.S. Army. He was a member of CONTACT helpline for 23 years
and also delivered Meals on Wheels.
Raymond Jay Franklin '50, Oct. 15, 1995, Alcoa, Tenn. He was a registered
professional engineer and president of Franklin Engineering Co. He was also
a member of Ruritan National for 45 years.
Leon Froy Long '50, Feb. 13, 1996, Knoxville. He was a retired board
member and former executive vice president and secretary of J.E. Lutz Insurance
Co. He was a veteran of WWII and, while at UT, a member of Pi Kappa Alpha
fraternity.
William L. Pedretty '50, Feb. 3, 1996, Clearwater, Fla. He was an engineer
with Sperry/Unisys before establishing his own electronics firm. While at
UT he was an active member of Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu honorary engineering
societies.
John F. Taylor '50, Feb. 4, 1996, LaFollette, Tenn. He was an educator
in the Campbell County Schools for 44 years. After retiring, he served two
terms on the school board and was active in the Gideons.
Robert G. Affel Sr. '51, Dec. 27, 1995, Oak Ridge, Tenn. He worked as
head of security for four Union Carbide plants.
Thomas Moore Boyd '51, Oct. 12, 1995, Athens, Tenn. He was a well-known
attorney in Athens for 45 years, specializing in title work. He was a veteran
of the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and, while at UT, a member of Phi
Delta Gamma fraternity.
Neva Lee Chumney '51, Nov. 2, 1995, Cleveland, Tenn. She taught elementary
school in Cleveland and Tellico Plains, Tenn., for 42 years, and was a member
of the Cleveland-Bradley County Retired Teachers Association.
Edna Francisco '51, Aug. 17, 1995, Kingsport, Tenn. She was manager
of Sharon's Shoes in the Fort Henry Mall.
Bloma M. Stanley Johnson '51, Dec. 30, 1995, Knoxville. She was a retired
Knox County school teacher.
J. Lawrence Wilkerson Jr. '51, July 3, 1994, Atlanta.
Edwin H. Croom '52, July 23, 1995, Jackson, Tenn. He worked for 42 years
in education: teaching in the Madison County Schools and at Jackson High
School for several years before becoming director of the Jackson Area Vocational
Technical School, where he retired in 1988 after 23 years. During WWII he
served with the U.S. Air Force in Europe.
John Winford Brown Jr. '53, Nov. 19, 1995, Kingston, Tenn. He retired
from Oak Ridge National Laboratories after 35 years. He was a veteran of
the U.S. Air Force and a past member of the Kingston Jaycees, where he held
several offices at local and state levels. He served as a Kingston city
councilman and on the Roane County Court.

Hollis N. Gammon '53, Nov. 28, 1995, Austell, Ga. He had retired as
assistant principal at Russell High School.
William C. Morrell '53, Dec. 3, 1995, Knoxville. He had retired after
42 years of law practice and was widely known in Knox and Union counties
for his pro bono legal work. While at UT he was member of Phi Gamma Delta
fraternity and Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. He was a charter member of
the North Knoxville Lions Club.
Margaret P. Sparks '53, Mar. 17, 1996, Maryville, Tenn. She was a retired
Knox County school teacher.
Jo Ann Boring Boyd '54, Feb. 3, 1996, Houston, Tex. While at UT she
joined Phi Mu sorority.
Orville N. Smith '55, Jan. 3, 1996, Atlanta. He was a senior partner
of Arthur Andersen and Co. and a member of the board of directors.
Roger T. Smith '55, Feb. 6, 1996, Corryton, Tenn. He was a teacher in
Claiborne County and at Lincoln Memorial University where he had been director
of admissions and alumni services. He was a member and past president of
the Claiborne County Retired Teachers Association.
Reef Waldrep '55, Mar. 14, 1995, Macomb, Ill. He was a journalist and
retired as professor after 21 years at Western Illinois University. He served
in the Army Signal Corps during WWII.
Charley Estle Evans '57, Oct. 13, 1994, Knoxville. He was an educator
with the Claiborne County Schools for 40 years and retired in 1975 as supervisor
of schools.
James C. Harrison '57, July 7, 1994, Memphis. He was quality control
manager for Velsicol Chemical Corporation. An Air Force veteran, he was
also a member of Boynton Inlet Fishing Club in Florida.
Patricia Ann "Pat" Armstrong Kinnard '57, Dec. 6, 1995, Sweetwater,
Tenn. She taught English as a second language at TMG Japanese High School
in Sweetwater. While at UT she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Society
and Sigma Kappa sorority.

James Reece Carter '58, Feb. 19, 1996, Piney Flats, Tenn. He was a former
owner and operator of Holston Oil Co. and a partner in the law firm Carter
and Slagle and Associates. He was a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives
from 1962 to 1968 and served as majority leader from 1963 to 1968.
Howard C. "Pud" Jackson '59, Oct. 5, 1995, Poquoson, Va. He
was a football coach and educator for 30 years with 15 years in the Hampton
City Schools. While at UT he was a football letterman from 1955 to 1958
and played in both the Sugar and Gator Bowls.
Bobby Beard '60, Mar. 22, 1996, Oak Ridge, Tenn. He was retired from
Martin Marietta K-25 and a group leader with the Computer Science Organization.
June S. Jordan '60, Nov. 29, 1995, Etowah, Tenn. She was retired director
of counseling at McMinn Central High School.
Lucie Searle Patton '61, Dec. 2, 1995, Knoxville. She worked with small
children for many years beginning with the Head Start program and most recently
in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church and Graystone Presbyterian Church
preschool programs.
Carole Spooner Reems '61, Sept. 28, 1995, Arden, N.C. She was a banking
officer and regional teller trainer at Wachovia Bank in Asheville, N.C.
While at UT she was a member of Pi Beta Phi and the UT Singers.
Robert Clyde "Bob" LeQuire '62, Sept. 22, 1995, Hillsboro,
Tenn. An attorney and electrical engineer, he worked with Exide Electronics.
Daniel Lee McCord '64, Feb. 21, 1996, San Francisco, Calif. After teaching
mathematics, he opted for geology, where field work for oil companies enabled
him to see much of the world. After retiring, he built and operated an inn
in Crested Butte, Colo.
William "Randy" Nicholson '64, June 29, 1995, Oak Ridge, Tenn.
A self-employed public speaker, he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity
at UT. He was instrumental in starting the Oak Ridge Sports Hall of Fame
in 1986 and was a charter member of the organization's selection board.
Donald Gene Richardson '64, Jan. 9, 1996, Kingston, Tenn. He was retired
from Marietta K-25 and, more recently, Y-12, as a design engineer. He was
a veteran of the Air Corps in the Korean War.
Katherine Peters Dunlap '65, Jan. 26, 1996, Knoxville.
Dr. L.D. "Jack" Moyers '65, Apr. 25, 1995, Murfreesboro,
Tenn. He taught at Middle Tennessee State University for 15 years and was
a highly decorated WWII Navy commander and flight instructor.
William Joseph "Joe" Quirk '66, Feb. 13, 1996, Etowah, Tenn.
He was former football and girls basketball coach at Greenback High School.
He was principal of Mountain View Elementary and McMinn Central High schools
until his retirement.
Dr. Nancy Ann Stricklin '68, Sept. 14, 1995, Maryville, Tenn. She
was a retired professor of English at Pellissippi State Technical Community
College, Knoxville.
Arnold Estep '69, Dec. 31, 1995, Knoxville. He was a civil engineer
for TVA for 27 years.
Kathleen M. Underwood '69, Sept. 5, 1995, Little Rock, Ark. She was
a retired social worker for the Arkansas Department of Human Service.
Martha Catherine Campbell Watkins '69, Dec. 28, 1995. She served as
UT Medical Center librarian for ten years before moving to Macon, Ga., in
1987 as assistant director of the Mercer Medical Library. She served as
chair of the Southeastern Conference of Hospital Libraries and the Southern
Chapter of the Medical Libraries Association.

Earl Barnett '71, Jan. 25, 1996, Knoxville. A mathematics teacher at
Christchurch, Va., Jefferson City, Tenn., and Knoxville until retiring in
1990, he was also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
Joseph Hall Carey '71, Sept. 17, 1995, Atlanta. He was vice president
and general manager for WATL/Channel 36. Previously he co-founded and was
president of Carey, Bladon, McDonald & McKernan Inc. He was an amateur
radio operator and a sailor, competing in races all over the country.
Valera Muse Lewis '71, Feb. 9, 1996, Knoxville. She was a retired art
director for the Knox County Schools.
David R. Moore '71, Dec. 17, 1995, Cincinnati, Ohio. He served in the
U.S. Navy.
Joseph Craig "Joe" Taylor '71, Nov. 3, 1995, Knoxville. He
was president of Joseph C. Taylor and Associates, a member of the Webb School
board of directors, and a life member of the Million Dollar Roundtable.
Lynette Meade Thompson '71, July 29, 1995, Nashville. She was Alive
Hospice's director of clinical services. She was involved with the PTAs
of four different schools and was president of the Julia Green School's
group. She also taught a class for the American Cancer Society on how to
quit smoking.
Richard Allen Etherton '74, Oct. 27, 1995, Louisville, Tenn. He worked
in retail sales, specializing in shoes for 13 years with Miller's Department
Store and ten years with Proffitt's Department Store. He was also a member
of the U.S. Reserves. While at UT he joined Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.
Evangeline Thomas Ramsey '74, Oct. 31, 1995, Dunlap, Tenn. An artist,
writer, and musician, she was a social worker in Hamilton County for many
years.
Raymond Michael McGinnis '75, Nov. 7, 1995, Sweetwater, Tenn. A veteran
of the U.S. Air Force, he was a dairy farmer for 16 years and was employed
at Watts Bar Nuclear Plant at the time of his illness.
Imogene "Jean" McSween '75, July 1, 1995, Harriman, Tenn.
She was a pink lady at Harriman City Hospital and a retired Bowers Elementary
School teacher.

Robert Henry Callaway '78, Feb. 16, 1996, Knoxville. He was a civil
design engineer with Wilbur Smith Associates and a member of the Tennessee
Association of Professional Surveyors and the Blount County Athletic Officials
Association.
Dr. Harriet B. Crump, '78, May 9, 1995, Collierville, Tenn. An educational
consultant, she had retired from Shelby County Schools after more than 30
years as a teacher and administrator. While at UT she joined Alpha Delta
Pi and Alpha Lambda Delta.
Paul Andrew "Kaz" Lowe '78, Sept. 24, 1995, Albemarle, N.C.
He was personnel manager at Alcoa in Badin, N.C., and had been an Alcoa
employee for 30 years.
Beverly Ann Mayfield '79, Nov. 7, 1995, Nashville.
Richard I. Lazarus '80, Nov. 3, 1995, Chattanooga, Tenn. He was the
former owner of Decision Associates and was considered an expert in financial
appraisals. Prior to forming Decision Associates in 1972, he was in management
for 15 years with various companies in the U.S. and abroad. He was a guest
lecturer of the American Management Association, a senior member of the
American Society of Appraisers, a member of its International Board of Examiners,
a member of the Financial Analysts Federation (Chattanooga Society), and
the Tennessee Bar Association. He was also a chartered financial consultant
and chartered life underwriter.
Catherine Lynn Forkum Brown '81, Oct. 15, 1995, Karns, Tenn.
Susan Stone Evatt '81, Oct. 16, 1995, Mobile, Ala.
Trula Grace Lawson '82, Oct. 15, 1995, Knoxville. She retired after
24 years with the Sevier County Special Education Center, where she was
director of special education from 1982 to 1991.
Kathleen Vance '82, Feb. 11, 1996, Knoxville. She was a clinical social
worker.
Dr. Sheldon Brown Clark '83, Dec. 15, 1995, Norris, Tenn. For the
past 12 years, he had been a senior research scientist at Oak Ridge Associated
Universities. He was named an American Statistical Association Fellow in
1993 and served the first nine months of the fellowship at the National
Science Foundation in Washington, D.C. He published more than 50 scientific
articles and regularly made presentations at national conventions.
John Edward Dowling Jr. '83, Dec. 14, 1995, Strawberry Plains, Tenn.
He was an attorney with the Knox County Law Director's Office.
Dr. Charles Kelly Hill '84, Sept. 27, 1995, Madison, Ala. He was
a NASA employee for more than 30 years and a member of all of the launch
teams with the exception of Challenger.
Jonna Lee Mack '93, Dec. 10, 1995, Knoxville. She was employed by Phillips
Consumer Electronics Division and a beauty consultant for Beauti-Control
Cosmetics.
Kevin Lee DeLozier '95, Nov. 22, 1995, Knoxville. He was employed by
Computer Gallery.
Dr. Kellie W. McGarrh '95, Nov. 30, 1995, Merigold, Miss.
Cynthia Lynn Page '95, Dec. 2, 1995, Knoxville. She was very active
in her church's youth groups.
FACULTY
Graham Walter Hoffman Sr., Dec. 2, 1995, Knoxville. He was a professor
of electric engineering at UT from 1959 until the time of his death. He
served as treasurer to Boy Scout Troop 30 for many years. He was an avid
hiker who regularly spent weekends in the Smokies with his family.
The Torchbearer regrets incorrectly reporting in its Winter 1996
Deaths that the late Betsey Beeler Creekmore was former head of the McClung
Collection at the Lawson McGhee Library in Knoxville.
