1927

George S. Knight, Alexandria, Va., has practiced law for more than 50 years.

1933

Irma Fitch Giffels, Fayetteville, Ark., received the 1995 College of Human Ecology's Arch of Achievement award for service and achievement. She began her career as a high school teacher in Rogers, Ark., and later became a district home economist for Westinghouse Electric's southern region. During WWII, she became the national coordinator to a nutrition program and served on national committees on price administration, food administration, and advertising.

1938

James P. Burns owned and operated Climate Control Co. Inc. from 1948 to 1979. He and his wife, Charlotte, live in Bristol, Tenn.

Roy Ketner McDonald,
the late longtime publisher of the Chattanooga Free Press, was inducted into Tennessee's Newspaper Hall of Fame.

1939

Julian Harriss, the late journalism educator from UT, was inducted into Tennessee's Newspaper Hall of Fame.

Joe Black Hayes,
a well-known UT sports figure from the mid-1930s to 1940, recently turned 80. Hayes was a graduate assistant at UT and then a coach at Cumberland College. He coached for more than ten years under former MTSU football coach Bubber Murphy and served for several years as Rutherford County commissioner. While at UT he was elected to student government, president of the Baptist Student Union, and represented students on the University's athletic committee. He and his wife, Mildred, live in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

1946

J. Paul Kemp, Las Cruces, N.M., taught WWII veterans in Robertson County's "On The Farm Training Program" after graduation. He worked for 27 years for New Mexico State University Extension Service, retiring in 1975. His wife, Barbara Redwine Kemp '40, taught home economics in both Tennessee and New Mexico.

Dr. Howard Owen Long, Pensacola, Fla., is a retired college professor and administrator. He has published 14 books--the last one was Tales of the River Country (the Mississippi and its tributaries)--and is now working on his 15th, Tales of the Fifty States. He served in North Africa and Europe in WWII and wrote Tales De Guerre about the 3rd division.

Lucian Robb Smith Jr.
is president of Houston's Citizens for Reducing the Federal Debt Inc., a non-profit Texas corporation.

1948

Hon. Frank M. Davis, Dillon, Mont., is a visiting faculty member of the Advanced Trial Advocacy program sponsored by the law school of the University of Montana and the Trial Lawyers Association.

Dr. Carl M. Wheeless, Orlando, Fla., professor emeritus, High Point University, has written Landmarks of American Presidents, a comprehensive compilation of historical sites associated with U.S. presidents. For 25 years he was professor of history and political science at High Point University and East Tennessee State University and as professor and academic dean, Forman Government College (Pakistan). Earlier he was with the U.S. government as archivist, intelligence specialist, and foreign affairs analyst.

1950

Sarah Frost Prather, Cullman, Ala., is a retired high school physical education teacher who was selected as one of six individuals to carry the Olympic Torch through Cullman in June.

1952

Jack Addington retired as claims prevention manager for Central Freight Lines Trucking in Dallas. He is working on a second career as a free-lance writer and has sold many articles and poems.

Dr. Chester L. Foy, professor of plant physiology/weed science at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, is vice president/secretary and founding board member of the newly incorporated international Association of Formulation Chemists. He spoke at the Fourth International Symposium on Adjuvants for Agrochemicals held in Melbourne, Australia, October 3-6, 1995.

1953

Bill Burrow is director of development for Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority after a Navy career. Accredited by the American Association of Airport Executives, he is also designated as a certified facility manager by the International Facility Management Association.

1954

Don K. Ferguson, Knoxville, wrote Grammar Gremlins, published by Glenbridge Publishing Ltd. His syndicated newspaper column by the same name is published in five states. He is a former city editor of the Knoxville News-Sentinel and was a News-Sentinel and UPI reporter for 15 years.

1955

John Noble Wilford, science correspondent, the New York Times, received the Ralph Coats Roe Medal, for "effectiveness in emphasizing to the public the importance of science, engineering, and technology through writings, lectures, and active participation in scientific projects." He served in the U.S. Army Counter-Intelligence Corps in West Germany 1957-59. He received a Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting, the National Space Club Press Award, and the AAAS/Westinghouse Science Journalism Award.

1957

E.B. Dyer retired from USDA's Soil Conservation Service after 41 years. His most recent position was national river basin coordinator and ecosystem based assistance developer. He and wife, Sarah O'Dell '58, live in Alexandria, Va., and have two sons.

Patricia "Pat" Pinckley Johnson,
wife of UT President Joe Johnson, received the 1995 College of Human Ecology's Arch of Achievement award in recognition of exceptional service and achievement. She has served on the boards of the Red Cross, the Heart Association, and for six years on the Board of Mental Health.

David Madden
received the American Association of State and Local History's annual award for his work in creating the U.S. Civil War Center on Louisiana State University's campus. The award recognizes achievement in the preservation, promotion, and interpretation of local, state, and regional history. The Civil War Center has provided activities for the LSU, Baton Rouge, and Louisiana communities since Madden was appointed director in 1992.

1958

Neil E. Byerley earned the professional designation of CMA for successfully completing the professionally accredited comprehensive examination on managerial accounting. He has been on the School of Accounting faculty at Clemson University for more than 20 years and is the senior partner of Byerley and Payne, Certified Public Accountants, in Seneca, S.C.

Raymond L. Green
retired as vocational director of Franklin County Schools after 35 years of service. While at UT he was a charter member of the Farm House fraternity. He and his wife, Mary Sue Sterling Green '56, live in Winchester, Tenn.

Charla Renner
is associate professor of nursing at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Ill.

Dr. Elise D. Schneider is provost for the international students program for the three colleges of the Ventura County Community College District in California.

1960

D.H. "Jack" Brewer Jr., vice president of state government relations for Olin Corp., announced his retirement. He has been with Olin for 34 years in a number of positions including finance, administration, and plant management. He and his wife, Carolyn, have two children and live in Cleveland, Tenn.

L.S. Hawk,
Lenoir City, Tenn., received the new products award for the direct manual Braille slate by his company's president-elect at Engineers Week awards luncheon WATTEC '96. This slate allows Braille to be written manually, directly left to right. Previous slates required writing backward (right to left).

1961

Dr. Robert G. Simerly is dean of university outreach and professor of higher education at Florida State University.

1962

Ryland L. Hoskins is executive vice president at Dye, Van Mol & Lawrence, a full-service marketing communications agency in Nashville. He was senior vice president, having joined the agency 12 years ago.

D. Lynn Johnson
is vice president, government relations, at Eastman Chemical Co. He is a U.S. Army veteran and former president of the Kingsport Board of Education, the Kingsport Boy's Club, and the Tennessee School Board's Association. He was chairman of the state affairs committee of the Chemical Manufacturers Association and the Federation of State Chemical Association. He and his wife, Barbara, live in Kingsport, Tenn.

Dr. Lee Raleigh Shugart, a research staffer in the environmental sciences division of the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has written chapters for four different ecotoxicology books. Ecotoxicology is the study of toxic effects that pollution exerts on living organisms, such as birds, fish and plants. He and his wife, Shirley, live in Knoxville.

Ray Sutherland,
president of Michigan Plastics Products Co., a division of JSJ Plastics Group, Grand Haven, Mich., won the 1996 IMMY Man of the Year award for his contribution to the plastics industry. Ray and his wife, Billie, live in Spring Lake, Mich.

James C. Uselton
is president of Sverdrup, an engineering and architectural firm headquartered in St. Louis, Mo. He is also chairman of two subsidiaries, Sverdrup Technology and Sverdrup Investments. He is a registered professional engineer in seven states and an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

1963

Dr. James A. Greene was appointed to the 1995 White House council on aging by Senator Fred Thompson. He is CEO and president of Geriatric Medical Care Inc., a management contract company headquartered in Knoxville.

Henry Turley,
developer of Harbor Town and founder of the Henry Turley Co. in Memphis, is a member of a group of building and design professionals that won Southern Home Awards from Southern Living magazine.

1964

Peggy Shipe Monger is an associate with the firm of Mary Katherine Longworth, Attorney at Law, in Loudon, Tenn. In June 1995 she retired from the Knox County Schools. She received her law degree in 1987 from Nashville School of Law.

Rita Sweeney Mott
earned her Ed.S. from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.

1965

Dr. Beatrice Lyons received the 1995 Carnegie Foundation Award for the Advancement of Teaching U.S. Professors

of the Year Program. She is associate professor of American Sign Language studies at Chattanooga (Tenn.) State Technical Community College. During the last 20 years, she has designed, developed, and implemented a comprehensive program of support services for deaf and hearing-impaired students. She also coordinates Chattanooga State's Sign Language Studies Program and Interpreter Training Program. She is active in many community organizations providing services to hearing-impaired individuals.

William R. "Bill" Riley
is vice president and general manager for enterprise computing sales and marketing throughout North America, Australia, and New Zealand for Amdahl Corp. Amdahl is a supplier of mainframe computers, servers, data storage products, software, and education and consulting services. He and his wife, Becky, live in Marietta, Ga.

Darryl K. Williams
is senior vice president, technology management, Eastman Chemical Co. He joined Eastman in 1965 as a chemical engineer, was transferred in 1974 to Carolina Eastman Division in Columbia, S.C., and back to Kingsport in 1986, where his assignments included superintendent, polymer chemicals division, and general manager, polyester plastics packaging business. He and his wife, Karen, have two sons.

1966

Jerry King is vice president of total quality management at Berryman & Henigar. He will coordinate and conduct the training of corporate employees and teams in improved management techniques and processes. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Society of American Military Engineers, the American Public Works Association, and the Construction Management Association of America. He and his wife, Piengchan, have one son and live in San Diego.

Diane Roddy Nelson
is professor of biological sciences at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tenn. She has led students on field courses to Bermuda, the Bahamas, Australia's Barrier Reef, and the Caribbean island of Bonaire. After teaching short courses for college teachers at the Bermuda Biological Station for several years, she now teaches college students in the summer program at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, Ft. Pierce, Fla. In January 1995 she became president of the Tennessee Academy of Science.

Dr. Curtis A. Siller Jr., Andover, Md., published his book SONET/SDH: A Sourcebook of Optical Networking, IEEE Press, co-edited with Dr. Mansoor Shafi of Telecom of New Zealand.

1967

George W. Brown, Chattanooga, Tenn., has written A Hundred Yankees. Let 'Em Go, about interesting people and surprises of the Civil War.

Dr. D. Ray Collins, professor of physical education and sport science at St. Cloud State University (Minn.), co-authored two textbooks: the fourth edition of The Art and Science of Racquetball, Tichenor Publishing, Bloomington, Ind.; and the second edition of Golf: Playing it Straight, Kendall/Hunt Publishing Co., Dubuque, Iowa. Collins has co-authored 11 books on sport and physical education.

1968

Dr. Wanda L. Dodson received a Fulbright Scholarship for spring 1996 to Uzbekistan, where she will teach nutrition at the Second Medical Institute in Tashkent. She is associate professor of home economics, Mississippi State University.

Dr. Doyle E. Hasty is professor of engineering at Motlow State Community College, Tullahoma, Tenn.

William Kendrick King
was elected circuit judge for McDowell County, W.Va.

Robert M. Poteat,
Oak Ridge, Tenn., retired as director of the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge Operations Office, Office of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer, after 35 years of federal service. He has opened a private law practice in Oak Ridge limited to intellectual property and technology license agreement.

Jimmie Faye Greene Trotter
was one of six finalists for 1996 Tennessee Teacher of the Year. She teaches at Pigeon Forge (Tenn.) Middle School.

1969

Dr. Frank Day Jr. received Clemson University Student Government's 1995 Excellence in Teaching Award. His students praise him for the humor and excitement he brings to the classroom.

Sam D. Jones
is manager, expatriate and relocation programs, Eastman Chemical Co. He has been with Eastman for 27 years, most recently as personnel associate, International Human Resources. He and his wife, Linda, live in Kingsport, Tenn.

William E. "Bill" Wallace
of Knoxville is 1996 president of Insurors of Tennessee. He was vice president of region III for three years, on the Insurors board of directors in 1990 and 1991, and young agent committee chairman in 1978.

Linda D. Wickert
of Roanoke received her master's degree in education curriculum and instruction from Virginia Tech. She teaches mathematics at the Fleming-Ruffner Magnet Center in Roanoke.

1970

Dr. Judith Ann Davenport is director and professor, school of social work, University of Missouri-Columbia. She received the university's alumni faculty award for outstanding achievements and contributions.

Terry W. Elmy
, Maryville, Tenn., is senior staff engineer with Alcoa. He sat on the ASME/ANSI B30.2 subcommittee, which writes national consensus industrial safety standards for overhead and gantry cranes. Elmy has worked at Alcoa for 25 years in Texas, New York, and Australia.

Dr. Rickey Welch, dean of the graduate school and professor of biology at the University of New Orleans, was elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

1971

Lawrence M. Fidel is executive director of the Alabama Restaurant Association, representing the food service industry from its headquarters in Montgomery. He was appointed to the Governor's Advisory Board on Tourism and serves on the Board of Directors of the International Society of State Restaurant Association Executives.

Clayton M. Jones
is vice president and general manager of Collins Air Transport Division of Rockwell International Corp., headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Collins Air is a leading supplier of communications, navigation, and flight control systems to the commercial airline industry.

Kiran M. Patel
, Columbus, Ind., was appointed vice president and chief financial officer for Cummins Engine Co. Inc. He has been president of Cummins' Fleetguard filter subsidiary for the past three years. During his 24 years with the company, he has worked in finance, strategic planning, and manufacturing.

Paul Sherrington
, assistant vice president of marketing communications at Equifax Inc., Atlanta, is the Business Marketing Association's chairman of the board for 1995-96. He has been an active association member since 1979 and is in his second year as distinguished practitioner lecturer in marketing at the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Nancy, live in suburban Atlanta.

Linda T. Carrico is advanced business support specialist durables, Rec Utility/Appliances for Eastman Chemical Co., Kingsport, Tenn.

Robert H. Magill
earned his master's degree in information systems from George Mason University, Fairfax, Va.

Dr. Elinor Parry Ross is professor of curriculum and instruction at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville. She has published The Workshop Approach: A Framework for Literacy, Christopher-Gordon Publishers of Massachusetts. The book is a comprehensive guide for elementary school teachers on teaching reading and writing through a student-centered workshop format.

Thomas E. Tuck
is president and a founder of Tennessee Bank, a new community bank in Oak Ridge, Tenn. He and his wife, Sandra Cox Tuck '73, live in Knoxville with their three sons.

1973

Billie Felts Brannen has taught Spanish migrant students at Dundee (Fla.) Elementary School for six years. She is also corporate secretary for her husband's citrus business. She and her husband live with their four children in Dundee.

Kate Shapard Curtis
received her master's degree in education from Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro.

Rod Irvin
, APR, communications associate at Eastman Chemical Co., is secretary of the corporate section of the Public Relations Society of America. He has been active in numerous community organizations, including the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce, Kingsport Convention and Visitors Bureau, Northeast Tennessee Tourism Council, United Way, and First Night Kingsport.

Dr. Steve A. Morris was recently certified

as a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Management. He is chairman and associate professor of the Department of Anesthesia at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville.

James M. "Jim" Phillips
received the Chemical Manufacturer Association's Energy Efficiency Award for installing an absorption refrigeration cogeneration system to reduce energy costs and emissions at DuPont's Cape Fear, N.C., plant.

Paula Rinehart
, Raleigh, N.C., was among 80 contributors to The Woman's Study Bible, the first study Bible created completely by women, for women, addressing issues of particular interest to women, released in October 1995 by Thomas Nelson Bibles.

Calvin Turley
of Memphis was a member of a group of building and design professionals that won Southern Home awards from Southern Living magazine. He is a partner of the We're Nuts Pecan Co. and owns the Turley Cotton Co.

Dr. James G. Ward is director of the Center for the Study of American Culture and Language in Salzburg, Austria.

Archie R. Wortham
, weekly columnist for Universal City's (Texas) Herald column "Jeremy's Dad," was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in the commentary category.

1974

Coast Guard Lt. Linda S. Chattin reported for duty with Coast Guard Group Ohio Valley, Louisville, Ky.

Darrell Corpening
was appointed superintendent, power and services division after 21 years with Eastman Chemical Co. He and his wife, Karen, live in Johnson City, Tenn.

Margaret Churchwell Culpepper,
Signal Mtn., Tenn., is commissioner of employment security for the State of Tennessee.

Ronald M. Henry,
Knoxville, was appointed investment vice president of J.C. Bradford & Co.

Michael Johnson
joined Cobia Boat Co. as controller. He spent the last 15 years as plant controller for Maremont Exhaust Products, Loudon, Tenn. He is a member of International Management of Accountants. He and his family live in Knoxville.

Jim Tenpenny
is director of facilities with Washington Regional Medical System in Northwest Arkansas. He was superintendent of construction and renovation at Texas A&M University in College Station.

Charles T. "Chuck" Wright
is chief executive of the Southern Oregon service area of Providence Health System. He had been COO of Providence Medford Medical Center since 1993 and associate administrator of the facility since November 1992. He and his wife, Valerie, and their four children live in Medford, Ore.

1975

John J. Brock is health and safety manager at TVA's Bull Run Fossil Plant. He lives with his wife, Catherine Hylander Brock '77, and their three children in Knoxville.

DeAnne Underwood Gammon,
a fifth-grade science teacher at Brownsville Road Elementary School, Memphis, won the 1995 "Thanks To Teachers" award from WMC-TV and the Memphis Area Teachers' Credit Union. She was selected from more than 1,500 nominees in a three-state area for her innovative teaching strategies.

Patricia Hughes Hall
is a senior adjuster with Colonial Insurance Co. of California.

Dr. Sandra Mathes earned her Ph.D. in music theory at Florida State University in April 1995. She is associate professor of music at Liberty University as well as organist and director of the chancel and handbell choirs at Memorial Christian Church in Lynchburg, Va.

Beverly J. McClellan
retired as associate professor of nursing at Hannibal LaGrange College, Hannibal, Mo. For eight years she had been assistant director, ASN Program, and lead teacher for the second-year class.

Christopher D. "Chris" Wilson
is senior vice president of commercial real estate at First Tennessee Bank-Knoxville.

1976

Robert M. Bailey and N. David Roberts Jr. '80, formed the law firm of Bailey, Roberts & Bailey, P.L.L.C., in Knoxville.

Dr. Jane E. Campbell was promoted from head of the accounting department to assistant dean for undergraduate programs in business at Kennesaw (Ga.) State College.

Regina Vincent Clark
is project director for AmeriCorps in Hopkinsville, Christian County, Ky. She serves on the boards of Buddies Inc., Salvation Army, and Pennyndyal Arts Council. AmeriCorps Project focuses on tutoring/ academic enrichment, attendance, and self-esteem of Christian County students.

Mike Clinard,
Nashville, is director of community programs for the Tennessee Housing Development Agency.

David Wilks Corban
is a partner in the international law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P., Houston, Tex.

Jack M. Curtis,
Santa Fe, Tenn., was promoted to business manager of the painting systems division of Campbell Hausfield, a manufacturer and distributor of powered equipment for homes and businesses. He earned his master's in engineering management in 1991. He met his wife, Donna Umstead, at UTK, where their son, Jeremy, is a freshman.

Anna Dirl,
Dayton, Ohio, is executive director of National Black Methodists for Church Renewal, the caucus for African-Americans in the United Methodist Church.

Dr. Mark A. Edwards is superintendent of Henrico County Schools, Virginia's fifth largest school system, with more than 37,000 students. He received the Ed.D. from Vanderbilt University and was superintendent in Danville. He and his wife, Marcia, have two daughters.

Dennis G. Hall
holds an endowed chair, the William F. May Professorship in Engineering and Applied Sciences, at the University of Rochester Institute of Optics. He is known worldwide for his theoretical and experimental investigations of optical effects that occur near the surface of or within thin metal films, semiconductors, and optical waveguides. He and his wife, Rita, and their three children live in Pittsford, N.Y.

Carolyn Spoone Holt,
director of clinical nutrition services at Morristown Hamblen Healthcare System, was named Tennessee's Outstanding Dietitian of the Year for 1995 by the Tennessee Dietetic Association. She was president of the Knoxville District Dietetic Association for 1994-95 and is serving a two-year term as treasurer.

George T. "Buck" Lewis III
, partner in the law firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman & Caldwell, is chair of the Tennessee Judicial Selection Commission, which screens applicants and recommends attorneys to the Governor for appointment to all trial and appellate judicial vacancies in Tennessee.

Dr. Michael T. Nettles, former UT administrator and professor of education at the University of Michigan, is serving a three-year term as executive director of the United Negro College Fund's Frederick D. Patterson Research Institute. Named for UNCF's founder, the facility is the first major black-led education research institute in the country.

1977

Jane E. Cloninger was promoted to partner at Edgar, Dunn & Co., one of the nation's largest independent management consulting firms, headquartered in San Francisco, Calif.

Dr. Samuel "Sam" DeMent was a visiting professor of pathology at University College, Dublin, Ireland. He and his family live in Greenwood, S.C., where he is in private practice. He also serves as an ambassador for Promise Keepers.

Gary E. Green
is assistant vice president, computer operations, for Cavalry Banking, Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Marine Lt. Col. Michael L. Gregory was promoted to his present rank while serving with the commandant of the Marine Corps, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps, Washington, D.C.

Pat Freeman,
Moses Lake, Wash., was selected for the Upjohn sales academy for 1995 animal health sales, his third selection to the sales academy in his ten-year career with Upjohn.

Dr. Myra Ann Preston received her Ph.D. in psychophysiology from Union University in Cincinnati. She has been granted a patent on a method of diagnosis and treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome. She is in private practice in Charlotte, N.C.

Denton D. Stokes
earned his master's degree in music from George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

1978

LTC Nancy Lowe Allmon was chief nurse, 86th Combat Support Hospital, June-November 1995, in support of the United Nations mission in Haiti. She is assigned to Fort Campbell, Ky.

Dr. Chris R. Calkins, a meats scientist and teacher, became the first Nebraska Cattle Industry Professor of Animal Science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He is president-elect of the American Meat Science Association.

Dr. Jay Exum is partner and senior ecologist for Ecobanks. He is responsible for developing ecological restoration plans and regulatory permitting for the wetlands and uplands Ecobanks establishes as mitigation banks.

James B. "Joe" Gaston
is principal of McMinn Central High School, Etowah, Tenn.

Dr. David Howard is a member of the Memphis Radiologic Professional Corp. and practices radiology at Methodist Hospitals of Memphis. His wife, Alice Moffatt Howard '79, is a part-time family nurse practitioner in Memphis.

Dr. Benjamin L. Jones, research program leader for Campbell Soup Co. Research and Development, received the Outstanding Contribution to Research Award for his work in flavors. He is listed in American Men and Women of Science. He and his wife, Betty Mann Jones '79, live in Somerdale, N.J.

Nelson McDonald
is president of Laurel Springs Realty, a Jack Nicklaus Golf Community located in Forsyth County, just 25 minutes north of Atlanta.

Christine Morton
received her master of education degree from Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro.

1979

J. Milton "Milt" Childress, Charlotte, N.C., is assistant vice president--planning and development at United Dominion Industries. Before coming to United Dominion, he had been in the corporate finance advisory group of Ernst & Young's Charlotte and Atlanta offices.

David A. Lochbaum,
Plainfields, N.J., authored a technical book entitled Nuclear Waste Disposal Crisis, published by Penn Well Books of Tulsa, Okla.

Stephanie J. Martin
is CEO and founder of the 1st American Investment Banking Corp., an international financial planning and stockbrokerage corporation in Brandon, Fla.

Steven E. Nicley,

eighth collection of poems, PLACES, was published in February by Sterling House. It was nominated for the Pulitzer. He has started his own Internet consulting business. He lives in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Pamela A. Horner
is coordinator for Children's Special Services. She helps families in Hamblen, Cocke, and Jefferson counties (Tenn.) get medical care and community resources for chronically ill or handicapped children.

Dr. Richard F. Jack received his doctorate in biochemistry and anaerobic microbiology at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va., in 1995. He is an environmental microbiologist at the biotechnology firm, BioSystems Technology Inc., Blacksburg.
