Welcome Home!

The University invites you to come home to campus and celebrate Homecoming 1997 on Nov. 7 and 8. There will be a reunion celebration for the classes of '52, '57, '62, '67, and '72, as well as events for all graduates and friends. Plan now to be a part of this Volunteer tradition! Special Events
Friday, Nov. 7

HOMECOMING PARADE
Join other alumni, students, and friends for the annual Homecoming parade featuring fabulous floats, the Pride of the Southland Band, class reunion representatives, and a surprise grand marshal. The parade follows its traditional route beginning on Lake Loudon Boulevard near Thompson-Boling Arena at 2:30 p.m.

BIG BAND HOMECOMING "T" DANCE
Return to the days of the big band sound with the Al Curtis Combo. The group will perform from 4 to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency. All alumni and friends are invited.

CLASS REUNION RECEPTION AND BANQUET
Each of the honor classes will be recognized. Reception and registration begins at 6 p.m. with dinner at 6:30. Special guests and entertainment will make this a most enjoyable and memorable evening. All UT class years are invited to attend. Hyatt ballroom. $35/ person.

UT SINGERS CONCERT
The Singers will perform their annual Homecoming show in the Hyatt Regency lobby at 8 p.m. Come enjoy musical entertainment ranging from pop to country to rock.

ROCK 'N' ROLL HOMECOMING DANCE
Take a few steps forward and a few steps back at the annual Homecoming dance. Deejay J. Stevens will provide a mix of music for your enjoyment. The party is from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the Hyatt Regency lobby. Cash bar.

BLACK ALUMNI ASSOCIATES RECEPTION
The Black Alumni Associates (BAA) invite alumni and friends to a reception from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Riverview Room of the Hyatt Regency.

FRED BROWN MEMORIAL RECEPTION
Make your way to the Black Cultural Center from 6:30-7:45 p.m. for an open house and reception in memory of Fred Brown, former director of Minority Engineering. Visit the new Hall of Fame, socialize, and renew acquaintances with classmates and friends.

 

MINORITY ENGINEERING 25TH ANNIVERSARY BANQUET
Join fellow classmates and group members in the University Center Ballroom at 8 p.m. to commemorate 25 years of the Minority Engineering Programs. Reservations required. $12/person.

BLACK ALUMNI ASSOCIATES GREEK SHOW
The BAA will sponsor a Greek Step Show from 9 p.m. to midnight at Alumni Memorial Gym. Don't miss this battle of the Greeks as fraternities and sororities compete for prizes and trophies. $5/person.


Saturday, Nov. 8

ROCKY TOP ROAD RACE
The 10th annual Rocky Top Road Race begins at 8 a.m. on the UT campus. This 5K race is sure to get your energy up for the game between the Tennessee Vols and the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. Early bird registration fee is $10/runner until 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5; and $12/runner thereafter.

PICNIC IN THE PARK
All alumni and friends are invited to enjoy food and fun at the annual pregame picnic in Circle Park. You can visit with students and college deans and enjoy displays and exhibits from the Colleges of Architecture and Planning, Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Human Ecology, and Nursing. A special "spirit" tent will provide a meeting place for the alumni cheerleaders and pompon squads.

The Ham 'n' Goodys box lunch picnic starts at 1 p.m. (or three hours before kickoff), accompanied by musical entertainment and a pep rally led by alumni cheerleaders and pompon squads. (Food service will end one hour before kickoff. Bad weather location inside Stokely Athletic Center.) $9/person.

ALEX HALEY MEMORIAL PICNIC
The BAA, Black Cultural Programming Committee, and Minority Engineering Programs will sponsor a cookout featuring barbecue and music in front of the Black Cultural Center in the Greve Hall courtyard. Picnic begins three hours prior to kickoff. (Bad weather location is the atrium of the Art and Architecture Building.) $10/person.

PREGAME SHOWCASE
The College of Arts and Sciences invites you to "Strangers in Paradise: The Effects and Management of Introduced Species," a 30-minute presentation by Dr. Dan Simberloff, Nancy Gore Hunger Chairholder in the department of ecology and evolutionary biology. The program will begin two hours before kickoff in Room 235 (Shiloh Room) University Center. Cookies and soft drinks provided.

ALUMNI COFFEE
Immediately following the football game, all alumni and friends are invited to a reception in the Hermitage Room of the University Center.

BLACK ALUMNI ASSOCIATES DANCE
Dance from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. with the BAA and Minority Engineering classmates. The dance will be in the Carolina Room at the Hyatt Regency. $10/person.

INTERNATIONAL HOUSE OPEN HOUSE
All alumni and friends are invited to an informal open house at the I-House Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.


C L A S S R E U N I O N S

A Special Invitation to the Classes of '52, '57, '62, '67, and '72!

Join friends and classmates to reminisce about the good memories of days at UT and catch up on all that's new! Come and make a night of it! All class reunion festivities will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.


Friday, Nov. 7

4-6 p.m. Big Band Homecoming "T" Dance

Alumni of all ages are welcome to join the Al Curtis Combo in the Hyatt's lobby and swing to the sounds of UT as it was in the 1940s and 1950s. A cash bar will be available.

6-8 p.m. Class Reunion Reception and Banquet

8-8:30 p.m. UT Singers Concert

It's just not Homecoming without the traditional performance by the UT Singers. This fully-staged mini-concert takes place in the Hyatt lobby.

8:30-10:30 p.m. Rock 'n' Roll Homecoming Dance

The perfect way to cap off the evening-enjoying the hits of the Beatles, Bee Gees, and the B-52s! Be sure to wear your dancin' shoes and celebrate Homecoming 1997!

"T" Dance, Reception/Banquet, Singers Concert, Rock 'n' Roll Homecoming Dance - all inclusive, $35/person.

College of Business-Statistics Department
Statistics grads will receive a separate mailing that describes events planned to celebrate the department's 50th anniversary.

College of Engineering
All engineering alumni, family, and friends are invited to the traditional Pre-Game Family Picnic in Alumni Gym. Starting three hours before kickoff, you can enjoy a Ham 'n' Goodys box lunch and tour the college's buildings, visit with other alumni and faculty, and meet the dean. Complimentary orange and white shakers. (Food service ends 30 minutes before kickoff.) $9/person.

College of Engineering-

Minority Engineering Programs
Collaborative programs, discussions, and activities will be sponsored by the Minority Engineering Programs, Black Alumni Associates, and Office of Minority Student Affairs throughout the week of Nov. 3-7, both on the UTK campus and in the community. Detailed information will be sent separately to MEP alumni.

School of Information Sciences
The School of Information Sciences will host an alumni reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the University Club. For information, contact Kristie at 423-974-2458. No charge; but reservations required.

College of Law
Homecoming activities will begin on Friday evening for the Law classes of '32, '37, '42, '47, '52, '57, '62, '67, '72, '77, '82, '87, and '92. The event will be held at The Foundry at World's Fair Park from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and includes heavy hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. $15/person.

On Saturday, all College of Law alumni and friends are invited to gather on the front courtyard of the new law school building for a Buddy's barbecue picnic. The picnic starts two hours before kickoff. For information, call 423-974-6691. $8/person.

College of Nursing
Join alumni for an all-day conference on Friday at Brookhaven Farms in Seymour. If you have questions call 423-974-7583. Additional information will be mailed separately to nursing alumni.

College of Social Work
A symposium entitled "Leadership for Diversity," an interactive workshop about "building bridges between people," is planned for Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom. A reception will follow. For more information, call 423-974-6015. No charge; reservations requested.
