years with the U.S. Post Office. He is president of Deep South

Dr. Betty Sue Taylor (EDU)
lives in Spring Hill, Fla., where she teaches and participates
in community theatre. She spent 15 years in show business, completed
her Ph.D. in 1985, and became chair of humanities at New York
City Technical College, where she had taught English, speech,
theatre, and music. She retired because of disability in 1994.

Dr. Grover L. Porter (CBA),
professor of accounting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville,
was appointed an editorial advisor for the Journal of Accountancy.
He is also editorial advisor for Management Accounting
and Tennessee CPA.
Dr. C. Boyd Ramsey (AG &
NAT RES), Lubbock, Tex., will retire Aug. 1 after 30 years on
the animal science department faculty at Texas Tech University
in Lubbock. He also taught eight years at UTK.

Damon D. King (CBA) served for
one year as president emeritus of Central Georgia Health System,
the parent corporation of the Medical Center of Central Georgia,
Macon. He retired in 1997 after 28 years as president and CEO.
He now serves as a consultant to the system. He and his wife
live in Macon. They have three children and two grandchildren
.

Robert L. "Bob" Carson
(A&S), Springfield, Va., was inducted into the Virginia High
School Hall of Fame in honor of his career as a high school athletic
director. He was athletic director at Thomas Edison and Lake
Braddock high schools for 25 years. He oversaw 66 district, 28
regional, and 22 state championships at the two schools. He and
his wife, Carlene, have three grown children. He served a three-year
tour in the U.S. Marine Corps.

senior vice president and chief financial officer at Eastman
Chemical Co., Kingsport, Tenn., has retired.

Joseph B. Emison Jr. (ENG)
is chief executive of Pickering Inc. in Memphis, specializing
in planning, architectural, engineering, environmental, and construction
management services. He retired with the rank of captain from
the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps after a 26-year career. He
is past president of the Society of American Military Engineers,
UT Memphis Chancellor's Roundtable, president of East Parkway
Neighborhood Association, Millington Base Reuse Commission, board
of advisors for dean of engineering at the University of Memphis,
and member of Kiwanis of Memphis.
Joe E. Wilson (CBA) retired
as a Georgia environmental health specialist. He will operate
a small home improvement business, Wilson-Power Corp. He lives
in Cumming, Ga.

Clifton O. "Clif" Goodlett
(CBA) retired Nov. 1, 1996, after nearly 33 years with the United
Methodist Publishing House in Nashville, where he worked in internal
communications, media reations, and marketing communications.
Earlier in his career, he was a reporter and night city editor
at the Nashville Banner. A charter member of the Middle
Tennessee chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists,
he is a past president of the Nashville chapters of the International
Association of Business Communicators and the Religious Public
Relations Council.
Garlin Ray Wilson (AG &
NAT RES), Smyrna, Tenn., is director of education and public
relations of Tennessee Farmers Cooperative. He had managed the
co-op's feed operations since 1980 and been assistant manager
in the feed department since 1973. He earlier managed Knox Farmers
Cooperative and was a general fieldman in East Tennessee.

Lt. Col. (Ret.) George M. Massey
(EDU) completed a 21-year career in the U.S. Army, which included
two tours in Vietnam, three tours in Germany, and numerous other
assignments and military schools. He earned his master's degree
from Vanderbilt University. He has written and published a humorous
account of his military experiences entitled GI (Guvmint Issue),
The US Army as Seen By Good Ol' Boy Soldier, J. Lamar. He
and his wife, Faye, live in Knoxville.

regional sales manager for La-Z-Boy. He oversees sales in Michigan,
Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. He and his
family will live in the Monroe, Mich., area, where La-Z-Boy is
headquartered.
Bobby L. Humphreys (CBA)
retired after 32 years with Aluminum Company of America at the
Richmond, Ind., plant.

Daniel Bruce Smith (AG &
NAT RES) is director of the Cooperative Extension Service of
South Carolina, based at Clemson University. He has served as
director of Clemson's School of Applied Science and Agribusiness
and assistant director of extension and research since March
1996. Before that he chaired the agricultural and applied economics
department. He was elected vice president of the International
Farm Management Association in 1997. He has received distinguished
service awards from the National Association of County Agricultural
Agents, the South Carolina Society of Farm Managers and Rural
Appraisers, the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers,
the Clemson Cooperative Extension Service, and the South Carolina
Department of Revenue.

Col. John R. Tindall Jr.
(CBA) is owner and manager of W&T Sales and T&T Rentals
of Radcliff, Ky. After graduating from UT, he was commissioned
as a second lieutenant in the army. He later became an army aviator,
served in Vietnam, and became company commander and battalion
executive officer at Fort Knox, Ky. He is a brigadier general
in the army reserves. At UT he was the cadet colonel of the army
ROTC unit and president of Sigma Nu fraternity.

(ENG) has been named president and COO of Ceridian Corp., Minneapolis,
Minn. Ceridian specializes in human resource information management,
transportation, and electronic media market information. He joined
Ceridian in 1993 and became executive vice president of operations
in 1997.

John S. Greenlee II (CBA), Alexandria,
Va., railway consultant, has been appointed by the United Nations'
World Food Program as railway coordinator at Nairobi, Kenya,
to facilitate the movement of food aid to East Africa.
R. Michael Potter (CBA) of
the Memphis-based law firm Burch, Porter & Johnson PLLC,
received the Ira Samelson Jr. distinguished service award from
the Boys and Girls Clubs of Memphis. He is a fellow of the American
College of Trust and Estate Counsel, member of the board of governors
of the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, founding member
and past president of the Planned Giving Council of Greater Memphis,
and has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 1989.
Jerry L. Vance (A&S),
Nashville, received the National Community Education Association's
citizen leadership award. He has drafted community education
initiatives as a legislative advocate. He has represented community
education in hearings before the Nashville mayor and metropolitan
council and the state department of education. He is a teacher
and has led community education workshops across the state and
at national conferences.

(EDU), New Port Richey, Fla., was named emeritus professor of
education at the University of South Florida Nov. 15, 1997.
Mimi Roeder Vaughan (A&S)
won the entrepreneur of the year finalist award for the state
of Maryland. She owns a travel agency and started Baskets and
Books, a non-profit organization that provides current bestsellers
and basketballs to the prisons in Maryland. She is assistant
editor of the Greater Baltimore Committee's Leadersheet
and is on the GBC tourism committee.

The firm of James O. Hastings Jr.
(A&P) and Jeannie Hastings
'70 (EDU), Hastings Architecture Associates in Nashville, has
been named to the 1997 Music City Future 50, an honor given to
50 of Middle Tennessee's fastest growing, privately owned companies.
The firm, established in 1985, specializes in institutional,
commercial, industrial, and residential work and has designed
more than 500 projects.
Rajesh U. Mehta (ENG) is
director of corporate strategy for Eastman Chemical Co., where
he has been employed for 27 years. He and his wife, Sharmi, live
in Kingsport, Tenn. He is a member of the Strategic Leadership
Forum and the Commercial Development Association.

Navy Capt. Patrick T. Cassidy
(EDU) has completed a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean
Sea aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Hue City. During the
deployment, his ship participated in multinational exercises
to test air, surface, and subsurface capabilities.
Mark J. Halperin (CBA), senior
vice president of Boyle Investment Co., Memphis, won the 1998
Lion Heart award for his work with Youth Villages. Youth Villages
provides residential treatment, counseling, and foster care to
more than 1,200 children and families throughout the Mid-South
each year.
Dr. James M. Lusk (A&S)
joined the computer science department faculty at Walters State
Community College, Morristown, Tenn. He and his wife and daughter
live in Knoxville.
Michael McManus (A&S)
recently was named treasurer of the central board of directors
at Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis.
John A. Poag (A&S) is
vice president for corporate services at YBM Magnex International
Inc. in Newtown, Pa. YBM makes high energy permanent magnets
for industry and consumer goods. He worked 22 years with E.I.
DuPont De Nemours & Co. Inc. in human resources and manufacturing.
Dr. Elinor Parry Ross (EDU),
a professor of curriculum and instruction at Tennessee Technological
University, Cookeville, Tenn., has authored Pathways to Thinking:

Dr. James E. Doss (ENG) is
director of cellulose technology projects for Eastman Chemical
Co., Kingsport, Tenn. He has been with Eastman 24 years. He and
his wife, Joyce, live in Blountville, Tenn. He is a licensed
professional engineer in Tennessee and a veteran of the U.S.
Marine Corps.
Greer Simonton (COM) is chief
operating officer of Archer/Malmo, Memphis. His responsibilities
include financial, corporate, and systems administration, human
resources, and business planning. He joined the firm in 1985
as executive vice president and is a principal in the firm. He
has also held marketing positions with Schering-Plough, Conwood
Corp., and Chiquita Brands. He is on the board of directors of
the Memphis Food Bank, the Marguerite Piazza Gala to Benefit
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis Literacy Council,
Memphis Goodwill Industries, and 100 for the Arts.
Vince Staten (COM), Louisville,
Ky., has written his ninth book, Do Pharmacists Sell Farms?
Inside The Corner Drug, published by Simon & Schuster.
It is a history of the drug store and drug store products, similar
to two of his earlier books, Did Monkeys Invent the Monkey
Wrench? Hardware Stores and Hardware Stories (1995) and Can
You Trust a Tomato in January? Secrets of the Supermarket
(1993). He was with HarperCollins publishers.

Dr. John N. Culvahouse Jr.
(EDU) received his doctor of musical arts degree in conducting
from the University of South Carolina. He is associate director
of bands and undergraduate music studies coordinator at the University
of Georgia in Athens. He taught at Knoxville's Doyle High School
for 11 years, at Sumter (S.C.) High School for six years, and
has been at UGA since 1991.
Margaret Boone "Bonnie" Nestor
(A&S) of the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge (Tenn.) National
Laboratory has been elected an associate fellow of the Society
for Technical Communication. She began at ORNL in 1976 as a technical
editor in the fusion energy division, and has been manager of
institutional planning in the office of planning and special
projects since 1993. She received a Lockheed Martin Energy Research
Corp. operations and support award in 1997 and a Lockheed Martin
Energy Systems award in 1995. She is the author of several publications
and has given many presentations on technical editing and communication.
She and her husband, Charles Crume, and their two children live
in Oak Ridge.

College, Morristown, Tenn.

Richard T. Batson AIA (A&P),
president of TurnerBatson Architects and principal in Myrick,
Batson & Gurosky, has been elected president of the United
Methodist Children's Home in Selma, Ala. He is a member of the
American Institute of Architects and the National Council of
Architectural Registration Boards. He is past president of Family
and Child Services, a volunteer for United Way, and a member
of the Society for Marketing of Professional Services, the United
Methodist Home advisory board, and the Ronald McDonald House
charter board. He and his wife, Roxanne, live in Homewood, Ala.,
with their two children.

Karen Reagan Britton (EDU) is
director of admissions and career services for UT's College of
Law. She has been director of admissions for financial aid at
the law college. She is completing doctoral course work in leadership
studies in higher education at UTK.
Willie T. Glover (ENG), Raleigh,
N.C., received his M.S. degree in computer engineering from North
Carolina State University in May 1997.
Evicta L. Harvey (A&S),
a third-year doctoral student in industrial/organizational and
vocational psychology at North Carolina State University, Raleigh,
has just completed a second year as a researcher and consultant
on a project for the Dominican Republic free trade zone office
in Santo Domingo. As a result of her work, the project has developed
into a partnership for the university.
Anne Dudney Kilgore (A&S)
is manager, information technology, customer services, sales
and business organizations for Eastman Chemical Co., Kingsport,
Tenn. She has been employed by Eastman for 20 years and most
recently served as product and logistics manager for Europe,
the Middle East, and Africa. She has relocated to Kingsport from
The Hague, Netherlands. She is a member of Kingsport Girls' Incorporated
Committee of 100.
Dr. John T. Mihalczo (ENG)
of the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge (Tenn.) National Laboratory
has been given the rank of corporate fellow, one of the highest
honors at Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corp. He joined the
neutron physics division in 1958 and is the senior research scientist
in the instrumentation and controls division, which he joined
in 1973. He is an expert in measurements with fissile materials
and has authored about 400 publications. He is a member of the
radiation detection advisory panel for the DOE Office of Nonproliferation
and National Security. He also is a fellow of the American Nuclear
Society, member of the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management,
and a fraternal member of the Knights of Columbus. He and his
wife, Margaret, live in Oak Ridge.
Kathlene Duncan Smith (NUR)
is assistant director of nursing at Walters State Community College,
Morristown, Tenn. She is a former instructor at Fort Sanders
School of Nursing, coordinator at Mentor Clinical Care, and director
of nursing at Lakeshore Mental Health Institute, all in Knoxville.

of the specialty plastics division for Eastman Chemical Co.,
Kingsport, Tenn. He is a member of the American Institute of
Chemical Engineers. He has worked at Eastman 20 years. He and

Dr. Samuel H. DeMent (A&S),
a pathologist, is director of laboratories at Self Memorial Hospital
in Greenwood, S.C.
Judge Steven A. DeMonbreum (A&S) is a federal administrative
law judge with the Office of Hearings and Appeals in Roanoke,
Va.
Pamela Young-Holmes (EDU),
Madison, Wis., is a member of the Architectural and Transportation
Barriers Compliance Board. She has served as the director of
consumer and regulatory affairs of Ultratec Inc., a manufacturer
of telecommunications devices for the deaf and hard of hearing,
since 1987. She has been a disability consultant to Wisconsin
school districts and a teacher of deaf and hard of hearing students
in the Madison school district.

Dr. Mary E. Boyce (A&S)
is dean of Whitehead College at the University of Redlands (Calif.).
She joined the faculty of Whitehead's department of management
and business in 1990. She served as acting dean of the college
for a year before being chosen to fill the position following
a nationwide search. She is active in campus and professional
organizations.
Murray R. Deal (A&S)
is business unit manager, container plastic business, Europe,
Middle East, and Africa, for Eastman Chemical Co. A 14-year employee
with Eastman, he most recently was regional business manager
for Eastman's industrial intermediate business. He is a member
of the European Petrochemical Association. He and his wife, Anita,
and their two children live in The Hague, Netherlands.
Nancy-Ann Min DeParle (A&S),
Washington, D.C., was recently confirmed as administrator of
the Health Care Financing Administration. Before becoming HCFA
administrator, she was associate director for health and personnel
at the White House Office of Management and Budget, where she
was responsible for budget and policy issues relating to all
federal health programs, including Medicare.

is a radiologist with the Memphis Radiologic Professional Corp.

Jaye Bramblett Martin (HE)
is director of women's evangelism for the North American Mission
Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in Atlanta. She was
minister of evangelism, women, and prayer at Houston (Tex.) First
Baptist Church. She and her husband, Dana, have one daughter.

Roy S. Martin (ENG) is president
of Can Nuke Technologies Ltd., a technical and engineering support
services firm based in Ajax, Ontario, Canada, which serves the
international nuclear power industry. He is also an owner and
vice president of Fulcrum Group Inc., a management and technical
consulting firm with offices in Huntsville, Ala.; Atlanta; and
Ontario.
Daniel McDonald (EDU), head
teaching professional at Hidden Valley Golf Center in Atlanta
and head of golf instruction in the continuing education department
at Dekalb College in Atlanta, has co-authored Precision Woods

NAT RES), Collierville, Tenn., is a conservation tillage specialist
for MonsantoAgricultural Sector, covering the southern
U.S. He recently was elected to the board of the Soil and Water
Conservation Society of America. Prior to joining Monsanto, he
was superintendent of the UT Agricultural Experiment Station
at Milan, Tenn.
Dr. Margaret Cochran (A&S)
is director of the Louisiana Scholars College at Northwestern
State University, Natchitoches. She had been acting director
since August 1996. Her research experience includes work at the
University of California at Davis, the University of Georgia,
and Oak Ridge (Tenn.) National Laboratory. She was also a fellow
at the Institute for Advanced Studies at the Hebrew University
at Jerusalem.
Thomas A. Harrison IV (CBA)
is principal of National Consultant Marketing for Wells Capital
Management's Global Fixed Income Group in Los Angeles, Calif.
He was a vice president with Merrill Lynch/Hotchiss and Wiley
and a vice president at Bradford & Marzec, a Los Angeles-based
money manager. He is a chartered financial analyst and a certified
public accountant.
Kevin Michael King (A&P)
is principal/architecture with Feltus Design in Nashville. He
has 16 years of architecture design, master planning, and project
management experience. He is an associate member of the American
Institute of Architects, the Tennessee Society of Architects,
Tennessee chapter of National Association of Industrial and Office
Properties, and International Facility Managers Association.
He serves on the executive board of friends of Watkins Institute
School of Design.
Dr. George Loo (HE) received
the outstanding academic advisor award from Kappa Omicron Nu,
the national home economics honor society, at the University
of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is an associate professor
of nutrition and has been on the UNCG faculty since 1990.

(EDU) is director of athletics, Memorial High School, West New
York, N.J. He is a town commissioner and a freeholder for the
towns of West New York, Weehawken, and Guttenberg, N.J.
Catherine Ann Woods (EDU)
is a coordinator at Walters State Community College, Morristown,
Tenn., managing the program that guides students through appropriate
curricula from high school through college or vocational school
toward a career goal. She, her husband, Charles, and two children
live in Dandridge, Tenn.

Edna Abernathy (A&S) is
president of E.R. Abernathy Industrial Inc., an African-American
distributor of industrial supplies in Wisconsin. She started
her business in 1991. She also owns Abernathy Consulting Ltd.

Virginia Campbell AIA (A&P)
is principal and shares ownership of Tuck Hinton Architects PLC
in Nashville. She continues as studio director responsible for
overall management of the staff and the firm's projects. She
is licensed as both an architect and interior designer.
Jennifer P. Craig (A&S)
has joined the law firm of Whelchel, May and Associates in Knoxville.
She concentrates in worker's compensation and personal injury
law.

selected brand manager of the year by Food and Beverage Marketing

is manager of acetate tow development for Eastman Chemical Co.,
Kingsport, Tenn. She has been employed by Eastman for 11 years.
She and her husband, Joe, live in Kingsport. She is active with
the Appalachian Girl Scout Council and Leadership Kingsport.
Alan Owen (COM) is customer
marketing and category manager for the Campbell Soup Co.'s frozen
foods/specialty division. He is responsible for marketing, forecasting,
and sales for all 15 divisions of the Kroger Co. He has lived
in Atlanta and worked for Campbell Soup Co. for 13 years.
Barry N. Totten (ENG) was
promoted to colonel in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was
ROTC battalion commander and professor of military science at
UTK. He now directs public works at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

is senior vice president of research and development at Grain
Processing Corp., Muscatine, Iowa. He also oversees quality control
and serves on the executive committee. He, his wife, Rita, and
their family live in Muscatine.
Darlene Duncan Brooks (A&S)
is technical services coordinator/automation specialist at Walters
State Community College, Morristown, Tenn. She was head librarian
at Lane College, Jackson, Tenn. She and her husband, Rodney,
and three children live in Morristown.
R. Scott Egli (ENG) was recently
promoted to senior operations supervisor instructor at the Tennessee
Valley Authority's Watts Bar Nuclear Plant near Spring City,
Tenn. He is responsible for training programs and courses for
reactor operators and technical advisors.
Delaine Mast (EDU), head
tennis coach at J.P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster, Pa.,
and a staff member for Billie Jean King's World Team Tennis,
has an award named after her. The award recognizes exemplary
service by Team Tennis directors. She was a member of the Lady
Vols tennis team.
Paul F. McQuade (LAW), a
partner in the Washington, D.C., office of San Francisco-based
Pillsbury Madison & Sutro LLP, has been elected to the board
of directors of the Student Conservation Association. SCA places
volunteer workers in national parks and forests. He was an SCA
volunteer at Merck Forest in 1974. He practices with Pillsbury's
intellectual property group and is an adjunct member of its environment,
health, and safety group.

D. Jack Maxwell (A&S), library
media specialist at Hamilton Elementary School in Memphis, has
received the Francis Neel Cheney award from the Tennessee Library
Association. He co-authored a grant that provided funding for
computers and Internet connections to all third-grade classrooms
at Hamilton Elementary.
Amanda McClendon (LAW), an
attorney who has practiced civil and criminal law in Nashville
for 14 years, qualified to run for the Democratic nomination
for general sessions judge, division 11, in the May 5 primary.
David C. Stump (ENG) is business
unit manager, extrusion coating, for Eastman Chemical Co., Kingsport,
Tenn. He has been with Eastman 19 years. He and his wife, Louise,
live in Johnson City, Tenn. He has been affiliated with the Tri-Cities
Institute of Industrial Engineers, Tri-Cities chapter of the
American Society for Quality, and United Way of Greater Kingsport.
Dr. Kent A. Williams (ENG)
of the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge (Tenn.) National Laboratory
has been recognized by the DOE Chicago operations office for
his work in the fissile materials disposition program. He worked

Bryon Scott Brown (ENG) is technical
manager of Dade Behring Inc. chemistry system group. He and his
staff are responsible for technical support of the commercial
production processes and facilities at Dade Behring's Newark,
Del., location. He is a member of the American Institute of Chemical
Engineers and co-leader of Dade Behring's corporate hazardous
material emergency response team. He is active in Boy Scouts
and soccer with his four sons.

a Dallas-based mobile communications and information systems

Andy McQuiston (CBA) is sales
representative for Innovex Inc. in Nashville. Innovex is an international
contract sales organization specializing in the pharmaceutical
industry. He is working on a three-year contract with Schering-Plough
Pharmaceuticals.
Scott Millar (COM) is president
of the Catawba County (N.C.) Economic Development Corp. He was
EDC vice president and earlier worked for the North Carolina
Department of Commerce. He has run more than 20 marathons.

J. Tod Fetherling (CBA) directs
interactive marketing efforts with emphasis on the Internet for
Brown-Forman Beverages Worldwide, Louisville, Ky. He joined Brown-Forman
from Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp. in Nashville, where he was
director of interactive marketing.
Perry A. "Tony" Lester
(EDU) is director of business development for the Oak Ridge (Tenn.)
Institute for Science and Education. He works with local and
national partners to develop collaborative opportunities with
the Oak Ridge community and the U.S. Department of Energy. He
lives in Maryville, Tenn., with his wife, Mary, and three children.
Dr. John T. Morgan (A&S)
is professor of geography at Emory & Henry College, Emory,
Va. He joined the faculty in 1986. His specialty is the settlement
landscape of the U.S. South, and he has written several works
on the architectural heritage of southern Appalachia. His book,
The Log House in East Tennessee, was published in 1990
by the University of Tennessee.

Charles "Chase" R. Bramwell III
(A&S), Fords, N.J., is a consultant working at Bristol-Myers
Squibb in Princeton, N.J., implementing SAP, an enterprise-wide
software application.
Andy Markelonis (LAW) is
conflict counsel for the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy,
which is the statewide public defender. He handles conflict-of-interest
cases in an eight-county area for the Hazard, Ky., and London,
Ky., offices.
LeAnn Mynatt (LAW) joined
the Knoxville office of the law firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman
& Caldwell as an associate and concentrates her practice
in environmental litigation and commercial lending and real estate.
She is a member of the Knoxville and American bar associations

Mark E. Proffitt (CBA) is
senior financial analyst for Eastman global technology ventures
with Eastman Chemical Co., Kingsport, Tenn. He has been employed
by Eastman nine years and earlier was in the financial services

her MBA degree from the University of Miami at Coral Gables,

B. Andrew "Drew" Plant
(COM) is vice president of communications and client services

Executive Network and is a columnist for Southern Voice, an alternative

Mark K. Cox (ENG) is superintendent

Dr. Carol J. Smucker (NUR)
is coordinator for the parish nurse program at Baptist Hospital

(A&S) made history May 11, 1998, by becoming the first brothers
to receive their M.D. degrees from Emory University School of
Medicine on the same day. Brett was also awarded a Ph.D. in molecular

Dr. Philip M. Jardine, a
research scientist in the Environmental Sciences Division of
the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, received
the 1998 TOYA Award. His research improved methods for monitoring
contaminants and controlling chemical migration at waste sites.
His integration of field, laboratory, and theoretical modeling
in research has brought him national acclaim. He received DOE's
Office of Energy Research 1996 Young Scientist Award as well
as the first annual Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists
and Engineers. He was elected chairman of the soils and environmental
quality division of the Soil Science Society of America for 1996-97.
He and his wife, Shari, live in Knoxville.
