Saluting Torchbearers '98Seven students won the coveted Torchbearer award for 1998. Torchbearer is UTK's highest student honor. Those selected are: CeCedric Bobo, mechanical engineering major from Memphis; Tausha Carmack, political science major from Bristol, Tenn.; James Kirkland, history major from Jackson, Tenn.; Rebecca Kaye Loney, accounting major from Knoxville; Jamie Pizzirusso, College Scholar from Memphis; Andrew Schaeffer, accounting major from Collierville, Tenn.; and Travis Wright, College Scholar from Whitesburg, Tenn. UTK master of business administration students took first place in a regional case study competition last spring. Six teams participated in the competition at Tulane University in New Orleans. The UTK team was coached by Eddie Armbrister, a third-year student working on a joint MBA-doctorate of jurisprudence degree. Team members were Phil Meledjiev, Doug Rainwater, and Russ Story, all second-year students, and Mark Meigs, a first-year student. Teams from the University of North Carolina and Rice University finished second and third. Teams from Emory University, Tulane, and Southern Methodist University also participated. May graduate Jason Gregory was named the region's top transportation student during spring semester. Gregory, a civil engineering major from Memphis, won the Southeastern Transportation Center Outstanding Student Award, which honors academic achievement in transportation. He was president of two local chapters of professional transportation societies and a member of Tau Beta Pi honor society. Return to Summer 1998 table of contents. |
