is essential for photosynthesis. It absorbs energy from the Sun's light
and uses it to help the plants make food from carbon dioxide and water.

Species (sp) - According to The Kingfisher Encyclopedia, a
species is a particular kind of organism. There are about 1,000,000 known
animal species and over 350,000 known plant species. All members of a species
have the same general appearance and behavior. In a species, there can be
a lot of variation between individuals. If you look at your friends, they
are all slightly different though they are all members of the human species.
Variegated - more than one color - sometimes stripes, spots, etc.
Example: a dalmation dog is variegated because it is black and white. A
black lab dog is not variegated because it is all one color.
