Bears at the Knoxville Zoo

The bear facts are that animals can get bored. A little honey inside a PVC pipe spices up the day.

This is Sigfred, a polar bear. Polar bears live in the Arctic Circle. Male polar bears weigh about 1400 pounds and females weigh about 800 pounds.

Diet

In the wild polar bears eat fish, birds, plants, and seals.

Conservation

These animals are endangered partly because of their thick, snow-white fur. Although the Marine Mammal Protection Act bans the import of polar bear fur into the United States, they can still be found on the black market. There are currently only about 40,000 polar bears in the wild.

Did you know?

Despite their size, polar bears are able to run up to 25 miles per hour and can swim 6 miles per hour.
